Lucy Stone, a local reporter in Tinker's Cove, Maine, is at a Mother's Day brunch with her family when she witnesses a nasty spat between Barbara Hume and Tina Nowak, but when Tina is shot to death on the public tennis courts right in front of Lucy, her editor takes charge of the story, leaving Lucy to conduct her own investigation behind the scenes and putting herself in the killer's sights.
